LSKB has acquired the exclusive worldwide license (excluding China) to develop, manufacture and market the anti-cancer compound Apatinib Mesylate (YN968D1). This New Chemical Entity (NCE), discovered by Advenchen Laboratories, LLC ("Advenchen") in California, is a potent, orally administered small-molecule angiogenesis inhibitor with the potential to fight solid tumor cancers such as colorectal cancer and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Unlike traditional cytotoxic and chemotherapeutic drugs, angiogenesis inhibitors work by preventing the blood vessel growth that is essential for supplying oxygen and nutrients to growing tumors.
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is important in tumor-mediated angiogenesis. YN968D1 inhibits angiogenesis in tumors by selectively inhibiting one of the VEGF receptors (VEGFR-2, KDR). Studies conducted to date show that YN968D1 is a highly selective and very potent VEGFR-2 inhibitor suggesting that the drug may be highly efficacious with limited off-target side effects..
YN968D1 has been studied in Phase I/IIa Human clinical trials in China by Jiansu Hengrui Medicine Co., Ltd., China's largest cancer pharmaceutical company and 7th largest player in the Asian cancer market (reported at CSCO's 2009 Annual Meeting). Clinical study results have been published in BMC Cancer Safety and pharmacokinetics of novel selective vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 inhibitor YN968D1 in patients with advanced malignancies. Hengrui is currently conducting additional Human clinical trials in Metastatic Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Advanced or Metastatic Gastric Cancer (study details at clinicaltrials.gov).
In January of 2009, LSKB executed a Global Codevelopment Agreement for YN968D1 with Bukwang Pharmaceuticals, Co., LTD. In collaboration with Bukwang, LSKB expects to enter into Phase I Human clinical trials in the US in early 2011.
